The domain is sent to this site’s server, which asks the registry over RDAP — the structured replacement for port-43 WHOIS — and falls back to WHOIS itself for extensions that publish no RDAP service, such as .tw, .jp and .cn. A few registries, .hk and .co among them, answer neither publicly.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the owner’s name and address missing?
Registrant, admin and technical contacts are redacted under ICANN policy and the GDPR. Registries still publish the registrar, the dates, status codes and name servers, and usually an abuse address for the registrar.
Why does my extension return no data?
The lookup tries RDAP first, which every gTLD and many country extensions publish, then falls back to port-43 WHOIS for the rest, so .tw, .com.tw, .jp and .cn all resolve. A few registries, .hk and .co among them, publish neither service, so their records cannot be shown here.
